Door frictie tussen de buigpees en de bijbehorende peesschede maakt de peesschede meer vocht aan. Dit kan zich uiten in het ontstaan van een peesschedecyste. Bij hinder hiervan, zich meestal uitend als pijn bij druk op de cyste bij het vastpakken van bijvoorbeeld een stuur, kan de cyste onder lokale verdoving verwijderd worden.
